2019, the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Chemical Elements

The United Nations has designated 2019 as the International Year of the Periodic Table of the Chemical Elements, which celebrates its 150th birthday. When Dmitri Mendeleïev published his first draft in 1869, there were only 63 elements (versus 118 today).

The organizing committee declared that this “is one of the most significant achievements in science, capturing the essence not only of chemistry, but also of physics and biology”.
